A couple of weeks ago I found myself staring at the huge bins of school supplies wondering what I might need for the upcoming school year. I noticed a package containing two glue sticks for a very cheap price. We tend to use a lot of glue, and my 8 yos sometimes goes a bit overboard causing pages to all stick together. With that in mind, I figured glue sticks might help with the problem, so I tossed them in the buggy and went about my shopping.
Two weeks ago I had the occasion to create a card for my dear neice Diana who was leaving us for college in South Carolina. In the process of creating a really cool pop-up card, I needed to apply glue to hold together two pieces of paper.
Ooooh, a chance to use the glue stick! No messy glue drips for me. So, I popped the top off the tube and discovered that the stick was purple. Way cool, imho (always been a big fan of the color of royalty). So, I rubbed the stick across the paper. It was super neat the way it went on purple but turned clear almost immediately. I rubbed the stuff all over the paper. I got it on every inch. I stuck the top paper to it and noticed that it didn't seem to want to stick in all places. I quickly pulled it up and reapplied. It stuck a bit better, but I ended up having to reapply again along the edges. I paper clipped the edges together to hold it until it dried well. It did seem to hold together while Diana opened her card - which she did like ;) Hmmm...I wonder if it has fallen apart by now?
So, it's fun, purple, and not nearly so messy. But you sacrifice sticky-ness. And isn't that the whole point of glue? Next time, I may try glue sticks again - only in a different brand. If that doesn't work out, I guess I'm *stuck* with good ole goopy glue.
